MPlayer has the unfortunate "feature" of adding just to individual
streams dumped from MOV, ASF, and AVI files.  There are plenty of
patches available to change that.  However, since you just want a PCM
wav file, there's no need.  What you should be doing is:

mplayer video.avi -vc dummy -ao pcm
