[MPlayer-users] flickering artifacts

Overnight I attempted my second (1 cd) dvd rip.  Both
of them have some flickering along the bottom of the
image.  Here's the 2-pass command I used for the
latest one:
nice -n 19 mencoder dvd://1 -aid 128 -oac copy -ovc
lavc -lavcopts
vcodec=mpeg4:v4mv:vhq:vqmin=2:trell:vbitrate=830:vpass=(1||2)
-vf crop=710:480:6:0,scale=640:-2,hqdn3d=2:1:2,harddup
-noodml -o ("/dev/null"||movie.avi)

(Hope that's readable.)  I copied the hqdn3d options
but now I think they're wrong since the movies is b&w.
 Anything else wrong with the line?

Some things I don't understand. The image size turned
out to be 480x274 instead of 640xnnn.  And the
flickering at the bottom (sample attached).  Can
anyone explain please?
