[MPlayer-users] segfault installing the 'debian way'

MPlayer-1.0pre5 runs fine on my Debian system via "./configure,make,make
install" method.

Using the debian method of:

fakeroot debian/rules binary

results in a segfault when I try to run mplayer.  I want a debian
package so that I can install mplugger and kplayer and others without
having to compile each, yet I do want to compile mplayer myself rather
than using the Debian binary out there, mainly because I have a Buz and need to compile 
in support for it.
