[MPlayer-users] cropped and scaled frames of video sequence

Hello,
I try to extract certain regions of a mjpg video in order to perform 
frame-based video sequence analysis. The extracted region also has to be 
scaled.
What I do is:

mplayer $AVI -vf crop=100:100:240:320,scale=50:50 -vo png:z=0

I chose the png vo driver, since matlab does not directly support targa files.
I didn't figure out how to pass a ratio rather than absolut values for the 
scaling (dsize?).

Any better ideas?
