[MPlayer-users] deinterlacing?

From what I have read it appears that interlaced PAL videos are in fact
288 * 720 @ 50Hz with every odd frame (1, 3, 5,...) showing even lines
(2, 4, 6,...) and vice versa and it looks like that the deinterlacing
filters in postprocessing basically throw away and interpolate every
second line. Is this correct?

Shouldn't it be possible and even better to split these frames instead
and double the framerate? To encode 2 frames with 288 * 720 @ 50Hz and
stretch them to original resolution for playback? Is there yet a filter
or anything else for this approach?

Which other deinterlacing filters do you use/recommend? What is the
meaning of "-1 2 6 2 -1"?

Tom
