[MPlayer-users] mencoder - adding black borders

I have read section 8 of the mencoder docs here:

and googled, but I cannot work out or find the actual command line
options to add an arbitrary sized black border.

Can anyone point me to the right bit of doco, or post a sample code, or
tell me which FM to read?
