I installed the cvs version from today and used ./configure

Soundcard is a Terratec Aureon 5.1 USB MKII with ALSA drivers 1.08. OSS 
emulation is enabled for the time being.

The Problem:

I would like to get mplayer working with ALSA. I don't want to have to 
use OSS emulation. The problem seems to be that my soundcard doesn't 
have a simple control PCM or Master for playback. The output device 
mplayer should take volume control of is called Speaker,1. But when 
chosing this it doesn't work cerrect (picture starts to hang, 'xrun', 
"your computer is too slow" messages).

This time changing the volume ofthe phones actually worked because I 
told mplayer to use the given mixer channel. But still the picture hangs 
when I press volume up or down. This happens when the messages a la 
"alsa-space: xrun of at least 105.036 msecs. resetting stream" appear.

Now gmplayer. Basically it's the same, but it's get a little worse. It's 
even slower than mplayer alone. I've set the mixer channel to Speaker,1 
in its preferences, too.

Possible reasons, problems, workarounds:
- Most common: broken/buggy _audio_ driver
   - Try -ao sdl or use the OSS emulation of ALSA.
   - Experiment with different values for -autosync, 30 is a good start.

- Slow CPU
   - Don't try to play a big DVD/DivX on a slow CPU! Try -hardframedrop.

   - Try -cache 8192.

Here's another thing. With OSS emulation it totally works. I simply do this

echo 'PCM "Speaker" 1' > /proc/asound/card0/oss_mixer

in order to link the OSS PCM channel control to Speaker,1.

mplayer does not hang with OSS emulation. But I think this is 
window-dressing.

Will this be fixed any time soon?
