The npr urls that wee posted work for me with the mms:// using 
mplayer-1.0pre6a. However, when i first tried it I only got intermittent 
broken-up bits of speech. when I added the
-ac wmadmo
everything came through fine.
This also works if I substitute http:// for the mms:// but without the -ac 
wmadmo either way I would get only broken-up bits of speech.
