[MPlayer-users] mplayer codecs

Having never used mplayer and inexperienced at compiling packages, I would 
like to know how to install the codecs that I just downloaded form 
http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/codecs.html.  I got the essential 
package and put it in my /tmp.  I have looked through  the "Instructions for 
installing and using codecs at the mplayer website and it is not very clear 
to me where to extract the files to or how to install them.  Are there more 
detailed instructions some where?
