I'm using Linux 2.4.26 and I compiled MPlayer from it's source. Do I need to recompile it in order to get it to display song names from the console? If so, how exactly should I recompile it?

I thought it may be helpful if add some more info using the -v option on a shoutcast stream. This stream displays song titles using xine:

bash-2.05b$ mplayer -v -playlist shoutcast-playlist.pls
