First, it saw games take very long only when they switch the resolution.
Second, it does nothing special (though it informs the windowmanager it
is going fullscreen, maybe you should try out a different one), but I
guess a driver shouldn't have much trouble to detect that it uses up the
whole screen...

Well, I never tried them myself but that's what I was told (and saw on
a friends laptop when he tried to play a game)...
