This is due to the vo being used. I have noticed that using the x11 vo with 
mplayerplug-in gives the best results for proper redrawing and embedding. The 
next best vo is xv. But it does have some issues with redrawing when the 
window is switched away from. Moving the browser window will cause the xv vo 
to redraw properly.
