When you use a fifo, the program (mplayer/lame/oggenc/etc) will
wait there forever for data, and you have to go through the ps list and
kill each of them manually.  Pipes work much better.  

If you don't want people using that hack, feel free to remove the junk
mplayer and mencoder send to stdout.
