[MPlayer-users] PSP Video

Does anyone know how to encode video properly for the PSP using
mencoder?  I am only running a Linux box and want to be able to convert
some dvds to memory stick(s).
It is my understanding that the PSP plays nonstandard xvid files.
I also believe that the files must be named in a special way.
Does anyone have experience with the best encoder settings for the PSP
to get the smallest movie sizes with acceptable quality for the PSP?
