I'm not entirely sure I understand your question. If you mean that  
when you choose "full screen" that MPlayer only fills half the  
screen, then the option you want all depends on the -vo you're using.  
It would help if you gave us your -vo as well as the version of  
MPlayer you're using and the exact command line you're using.

For now (assuming you're using Linux), try this: mplayer -vo xv -zoom  
-fullscreen
