Well, I just got a normal result from a test run.  That is the first,
but makes me wonder if I am dealing with a coincidence.  I am going to
encode a couple of movies which I have already made cds of and see if
I get the same result as the first time through.  The movies that I
had strange results on I had never encoded using the original setup
which seemed to work fine.  That way I can have a more controlled
contrast and comparison.

But, let me ask you exactly what you mean by "backtrack your mencoder
version until you find the oldest one that shows this behaviour"?  Let
me know exactly what you need and I will gladly try to give it to you,
if it will help you in any way.
