Would you happen to be using an audio driver different than oss or
alsa? I've had many prolems with esd and arts in the past.

Are you the person who sent me a pm on hw.fr?

Though I don't have much experience with mp4, I don't think vdub will
do a good job at this. I think your should have a look at mp4box
instead.
