Maybe because these cards are for ANALOG broadcasting? What do you mean
by DVB driver? Supply a MPEG-TS stream? Even if the card/driver did
this, one would still have to call mplayer as if /dev/video0 were a file
and not a TV tuner.

Theoretically these cards have a stream_type codec parameter that can be
set to MPEG-TS but my PVR-150 is not the only one that fails to encode
anything with this setting.
