Yes, use a recent version of MPlayer.

$ echo "gui=yes >> ~/.mplayer/config
$ mplayer
<...>
Please remove gui=yes from your config file. Run gmplayer if you want the GUI.
Error parsing option gui=yes at line 9
<...>
