Actualy the whole subtitle code is currently unmaintained.
And it really is in need of a new maintainer. If anyone
feels like he could handle the task, please tell us in -dev-eng.

Now for the question: there is a patch on -dev-eng that looks
somewhat promising. It needs some rework but if the author
follows trough you'll have a usable support somewhen soon.
