[MPlayer-users] Display File Encoding

Sorry for the late reply

Just wanted to say thanks for the info. I found that 'file' works very 
well for MP3's, M4a and AVI's. Not so well for other formats which is 
where the -identify switch came in very useful. I did notice that if 
your using an ssh window you need to specify -ao null -vo null other 
wise you will see errors complaining about X, which I guess is Backed up 
by what Cory has to say about the a/v drivers.
