Can you give some information about your system, please.
Otherwise it is hard to tell. 

For example I get that error (or atleast something similar I'm too 
lazy to check it out) when trying to play WMV on my mac using mplayer,
but not under windows and Linux. 
The reason, there aren't any libraries for PPC to play WMV.
