The main reason is that OGM and Matroska "on the fly audio switching"
support has been written by a contributor, pretty much with a hack
(but this was also the easiest way to do it). The core team team
doesn't like the way it's been written, therefore a bit of work has
been done by another contributor to make 'on the fly audio switching'
work with other containers.

Unfortunately, this whole work has not been committed because of a
lack of enthusiasm, and also because few people cared to test the
patch.

It should be possible to revive those patches if enough ppl care to help out.
