i noticed that mplayer doesnt support so called "native mpeg-4", meaning
mpeg-4 part2 streams stored in matroska as the matroska specs define how to
store such streams
i get the following message when i try to play such streams:
[mkv] Unknown/unsupported CodecID (V_MPEG4/ISO/ASP) or missing/bad
CodecPrivate data (track 1).
these streams are signalled via codecid V_MPEG4/ISO/ASP. i see its not in
the list of supported codecids in matroska.h (only "native avc" is). my
question would be if it would be possible to add support for this codecid.
as mplayer already handles mpeg-4 via the "vfw mode" (V_MS/VFW/FOURCC) i
assume it shouldnt be hard to support V_MPEG4/ISO/ASP too because as i see
it native mpeg-4 is just vfw with different codecid and correct timestamps
i have uploaded two sample files here:

thx
