[MPlayer-users] How to run experimental Win32 GUI

This must be a basic question, but I cannot enable the GUI.
I did a "make clean" and "make distclean". I configured with:
./configure --enable-static --with-codecsdir=codecs \
--with-livelibdir=c:/progra~1/mplayer/svn/live \
--enable-debug=3 --enable-gui

I renamed the Blue skin as default and copied it to:
/usr/local/share/mplayer/skins.
./mplayer.exe <filename> gives the same results as usual. If I run
./mplayer.exe -gui <filename>, I get:
$ ./mplayer.exe -gui 049.rm
MPlayer dev-SVN-r19181-3.4.2 (C) 2000-2006 MPlayer Team
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz (Family: 15, Model: 3, Stepping: 3)
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 0 SSE2: 0
Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX MMX2 SSE SSE2

Please remove gui=yes from your config file. Run gmplayer if you want the
GUI.
However, there is no gmplayer.

If I follow the documentation's recommendation to configure with
==enable-static="-mwindows", mplayer stops writing to stdout and stderr
as expected.

What am I doing wrong?

I am on Windows XP SP2, with MSYS 1.0.11 and gcc-3.4.2 (mingw).
