Hi Attila and others,

It seems that Mplayer does support DirectShow, at least in limited fashion.
When opening a DV type 2 AVI file (separate video and audio streams) Mplayer
successfully selects and opens the DirectShow codec family. Besides,
man_page.html does make reference to the -vfm dshow option. It seems that
the use of DirectShow (like any other codec) is limited by colour depth,
code page etc. combinations.
