Cropdetect isn't very difficult to script.
For telecining, you can make a pretty good guess without even playing
the DVD... Unless it's a TV show, you've got about a 99% chance it's
telecined, and that last 1% is only the very low-budget movies. And
that would be reasonably simple to automatically check, just by parsing
the output of "mplayer -v -vf pullup", or similar.
