If nobody gives you an answer soon, and you want to do the developers a 
favor and make it more likely this will be fixed, it would be very 
helpful if you would find the exact date when CVS stopped being able to 
play the file. Use cvs' -D option to check out different dates and 
narrow down when the problem started.
