[MPlayer-users] random segfaults while encoding (local VOBs, lavc)

I'm trying to backup DVD I bought today, it is sequel to popular movie
featuring sabretooth squirrel. I managed to get VOBs on my harddrive,
they played with no problems using 

$ mplayer dvd:// -dvd-device .

Strange things started to happen when I run x264 encoding - in output
file there appeared random disturbances (horizontal dotted lines and
single rectangulars blots, a bit like dust in old movies). I stripped
all extra x264opts, still the same. Then I build both fresh SVN x264 and
mplayer, no change.

I did some lavc encode instead of x264 and now this is really spooky as
mencoder segfaults _randomly_, sometimes spitting error

...
[mpeg4 @ 0xd2e490]Error evaluating rc_eq "tex^qComp"
...

before it segfaults.

Anyone ever seen similar behavior? If the bell rings for someone, please
let me know.
