Since it's Da Vinci Code it's Sony, and gratulations, you've run into an 
Arccos-Protected disc. Some sectors are marked defective and the cell 
information should steer the player around them, but mplayers default 
playing engine does not use this information - dvdnav instead does (at 
least it helped with all my Sony DVDs...) I'm still waiting for the 
support to be included in normal mplayer mode rather than having to use 
the navigation menu...
