To specify aspect ratio you should use for example -vf dsize=640:480

> mencoder video.avi -o output.avi -ovc x264 -oac copy -x264encopts pass=1
> -vf scale=640:480

> FATAL: Cannot initialize video driver.

I never had something wierd like this, dunno. Maybe someone with more 
experience could answer about this.
