[MPlayer-users] GUI versus command prompt for internet radio

I found an interesting tutorial, <http://grimthing.com/
archives/2004/05/20/recording-streaming-audio-with-mplayer/>, but it 
doesn't quite address what I want, which is to double click on either 
"playlist.pls" or "playlist.txt", open with mplayer, and simply listen to 
the internet radio station.

Can I change mplayer so that it will correctly play the example file, 
which was renamed from standup.pls, by double-clicking on it?
