And indeed I did. I took a while for me to work out exactly how, but now I 
have an MPlayer on Windows that can seek to the large file offsets.

I wonder if there is a way I can contribute to the MPlayer effort by 
updating the build instructions at 
<http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/win32/contrib/MPlayer-MinGW-Howto.txt>. 
They are rather outdated and do not work 100% - other packages have moved 
on and the removal of --with-livelibdir configure parameter - and I'd be 
more than happy to update them.
