I'm sorry. I guess I should have mentioned what I really had in mind
instead of musing "out loud".

I'm just wondering if there's a way to create a ratDVD-like filesystem
so that I can make DVD backups complete with menus but use an encoding
scheme that compresses better than Mpeg-2. I don't intend to play back
my video archives on standard video players, anyway, but I would like to
keep menus. In fact, I have some DVD's where the videos are all on
different tracks (making having a menu an attractive solution).

As well, if it actually works, I might be able to get mplayer to play
the ratDVDs I DO have. If I need to get into the code to do it, well, so
be it. There IS a demand.
