I recommend DOCS/tech/slave.txt, more specifically stream_pos property.
It should be noted that this may be quite a bit ahead of the data
actually being displayed.

How about submitting it? I think it should have a good chance, esp. if
other frontend developers voice their support. Though changing the thing
printed to ID_ENTER_IDLE or so would be a good idea.
