dunno, I've compiled 24789 right now without any trouble... (gcc 4.1.2)
There's my config:
--enable-gui --enable-largefiles --enable-menu 
--disable-runtime-cpudetection --disable-debug 
--disable-dvdread-internal --disable-libdvdcss-internal --prefix=/usr
