imho try searching for 'mplayer slave mode' or 'mplayer frontend' or
'mplayer gui'

there are lots of open source frontends, most of them are listed here:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/projects.html#mplayer_frontends
and they use slave mode to control mplayer
(but they are most likely not js)
