You may have mis-understood me. The xv vs. x11 experiement I did above
was for HD video (smaller than 2046x2046), not QHD.
Indeed, trying to use xv with QHD gets:

   Source image dimensions are too high: 3840x2160 (maximum is 2046x2046)

What do mean by the "default port"?

Regarding your comment about xv not supporting RGB, I've noticed
in the past, when I've used xv on HD video, that tiny colour
artifacts can be introduced on very high quality material.  I take
it that xv is converting to a subsampled "colour difference" space?

I would love to try this, but won't I get the above "dimensions" error
from xv?
