Just an update to this. Previously I was happily reporting that all my
tearing/vsync problems were over. Unfortunately that was based on
only a few films which seemed ok. Afterwards I realised that other
films still caused tearing. I don't know why..
Anyways, I started to use mythtv with DVB card which showed tearing all the
time. I used opengl, and vsync was enabled everywhere, still tearing.
I tried all kinds of setting combinations. Then I found one interesting
xorg.conf in nvidia forum and this guy with the same video card (8500gt)
was reported in that forum that setting a certain value like this:
nvidia-settings -a XVideoSyncToDisplay=DFP-0 (or 0x10000)
Which means "synchronise to display DFP-0" helped him. He used (like me)
DFP-0 screen to show videos. I tried that also but I found out that disabling
Composite:
Option "Composite" "Disable"
removed all the tearing in my system despite of the other setting. Why is
that? Composite extension slows the system so much?
