I spent a huge amount of time regression testing, as per manual, and
the only resolution I have found is that I am not really up to this
sort of work. An insurmountable problem for me is a long period of
revisions that I cannot compile between revision 26000 and 26100 so if
the problem lies there I cannot see it.

Can I thank you very for your trouble which I appreciate, but I am
retreating to rc2. My apologies for wasting your time, although the
error that I have found is reproducible and seems to have occured
between revision 25959 and revision 26155.
