gnome-mplayer
http://kdekorte.googlepages.com/gnomemplayer
includes a dbus interface that could be able to be used over the network.
Docs on how to use the dbus interface are here:
http://code.google.com/p/gnome-mplayer/source/browse/trunk/DOCS/tech/dbus.txt
There is a Seek command that I need to document as well that could be
used to sync up over the duration.
