Hi!

We recently recorded some videos with a
JVC Everio GZ-MS120
and mplayer has difficulties playing these files.

mplayer used was freshly compiled from todays export:
SVN-r29324

The main characteristics of the file detected by mplayer:
--------------------------
Playing bla.mpeg.
MPEG-PS file format detected.
VIDEO:  MPEG2  720x576  (aspect 2)  25.000 fps  8900.0 kbps (1112.5 kbyte/s)
==========================================================================
Opening video decoder: [mpegpes] MPEG 1/2 Video passthrough
VDec: vo config request - 720 x 576 (preferred colorspace: Mpeg PES)
Could not find matching colorspace - retrying with -vf scale...
Opening video filter: [scale]
The selected video_out device is incompatible with this codec.
Try appending the scale filter to your filter list,
e.g. -vf spp,scale instead of -vf spp.
VDecoder init failed :(
Opening video decoder: [ffmpeg] FFmpeg's libavcodec codec family
Unsupported PixelFormat -1
Selected video codec: [ffmpeg2] vfm: ffmpeg (FFmpeg MPEG-2)
==========================================================================
==========================================================================
Opening audio decoder: [liba52] AC3 decoding with liba52
Using SSE optimized IMDCT transform
Using MMX optimized resampler
AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 384.0 kbit/25.00% (ratio: 48000->192000)
Selected audio codec: [a52] afm: liba52 (AC3-liba52)
==========================================================================
--------------------------

mplayer has two problems:
*) The sound is crackling badly.
playing the same file with liba52 0.7.4
a52dec -s <movie>
works well and without crackling noise.
xine, vlc, gstreamer works as well.

*) it fails to set the correct aspect

As far as I can tell the cam defines aspect 2 (4:3) in the $B1 sequence
header. But vlc says
libmpeg2 decoder debug: 720x576 (display 540,576), aspect 768000, sar 64:45,
25.000 fps

I'm not the great mpeg guru, but AFAICT the movie sets display size 540x576 in
a $B5 Sequence Extension header to define a SAR of 64:45?

Patching the movie to aspect 3 makes mplayer happy, but vlc/gstreamer double
strech the movie.

I can provide a reasonable sized sample of the movie if wanted.
