Exactly. I'd have switched to dvdnav a long time ago, if it'd always
worked as expected. One problem with it dvdnav though is that it doesn't
exit automatically on finishing the track, but stays at the menu, and
that there's no possibility to specify dvdnav://1-10 (for example), and
also that -dvd-speed does only with with dvd://, but now with dvdnav://

The status of playability is the following (at the moment at least):
* normal DVDs (with or without CSS (yes, there are some out there)) play
well with DVD
* early Sony-DVDs with ARccOS (from around 2005) need dvdnav://
* later Sony-DVDs with ARccOS (from late 2007) don't need it all the
time anymore
* some of the recent Sony DVDs don't use ARccOS at all, so back to dvd://
* Warner (at least in Germany, but Warner's New Line also in the US)
uses, together with some crappy DVD publishers in Germany, Protect-X,
which uses a corrupted UDF file system, which only a patch to dvdread
was able to amend, The Dark Knight for example also needs dvdnav://
* newest of all, Paramount uses a hitherto unknown protection, also with
modified UDF and erroneous flagged 'damaged' sectors, which current dvd
can't play, but dvdnav plays so-so (I have already a thread up for that)

So, currently dvdnav is no complete replacement for dvd at the moment,
and vice versa.
