[MPlayer-users] why undefined reference to VDPAU when --disable-vdpau?

I have a NVidia card (two, to be specific, in xinerama mode) in my
system, with a 177.something driver (which means pre-vdpau)

Now, when compiling current revision, even with --disable-vdpau (and
configure printing out vdpau amongst the 'disable' drivers, I get

libavcodec/libavcodec.a(h263dec.o): In function `ff_h263_decode_frame':
h263dec.c:(.text+0x152e): undefined reference to
`ff_vdpau_mpeg4_decode_picture'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [mplayer] Error 1

Am I missing something there? brutally commenting out the lines in
libavcodec/h263dec.c solves the issue, but thats really no solution...
