Thank you very much for a great workaround. Actually, -mc 1 is already
sufficient: the A/V offset indicator in MPlayer output shows an initial
A/V offset mostly between -2.0 and -1.0 seconds after a seek.

I was wrong assuming the mpeg2video warnings and the A/V desync were
related. Went way back in svn to 2008-01-01 and saw that r25563 exposes
the same initial bad sync jumping to a chapter or seeking in a DVD. The
mpeg2video story is quite young.
