I wonder if you should carefully scan configure's output for relevant remarks...

I believe the issue is knows (at least the one responsible told me about it),
but I am not sure if anybody is working on it, esp. given that it is not a
recommended method of building MPlayer.

If you want to work on it, and your change affects libswscale, the patch should
go to ffmpeg-devel.
