Hi Carl.

Thanks by your response. I've been reading the page with tips for encoding, and 
found it very useful. 


Only one comment about ffmpeg.

I know that ffmpeg is probably a best encoder. But it does not do many things 
that mencoder do, 

like some filters, subtitle rendering (with a lot of options). I think mencoder 
is better in audio syncronization too.

1: Please note that you are not using xvid but FFmpeg's MPEG-4 ASP encoder (it
is supposed to produce similar/better results, but there never was a useful
comparison).

2: Your question should be covered by the documentation:

3: Note that mencoder is not an actively maintained program, you should use
ffmpeg for nearly all use cases (de-interlacer patch for FFmpeg is currently
pending).
