[MPlayer-users] change_rectangle in slave mode doesn't do anything

Wow... confused on many levels now. ;-) I was running the command:
  mplayer -slave videofile
from the command line. It was taking inputs fine (play, pause, mute, etc.) I
paused the playback and entered a change_rectangle command followed by enter.
That's when I posted the first question.

Reading your post, I thought maybe a needed to add \n before pressing the enter
key. However, when I ran the mplayer -slave command again, it's only accepting
one character commands and I'm not able to control like before.

So, now I have two questions:

1. Do I need to be communicating mplayer from a program (not keyboard)?
2. Why can't I run mplayer from terminal now like I did the first time?

top removed since it says lines longer than 80 characters
