[MPlayer-users] Separating audio and video without losing sync?

For posterity's sake: ;-)

I seem to have solved the issue by not encoding directly to raw video /
audio streams but rather going to uncompressed AVI first, and then using
another round of mencoder invocations to extract the raw streams from
that. This way the extra sound samples at the beginning seem to be
dropped, so that both streams actually do start at the same point on the
time line.
