[MPlayer-users] -dvd-speed and write access to device

i'm using MPlayer 1.0rc4-4.4.3 on ubuntu 10.04 and i'm trying to play
some AVI files i have burned on a DVD.  the DVD spins too fast and is
noisy.  i want to use -dvd-speed to slow it down, but it doesn't work.
in the manual it says i need write access to the DVD device in order for
it to work, and i'm guessing as a regular user i don't have write
access?  how can i check this and give myself write access to the device
if needed?  thanks
